Is osteopathy safe?
Yes. Osteopathy is considered a safe and well-regulated form of healthcare in the UK when practised by a registered osteopath.
We’re happy to offer guidance. Many patients contact us first for an assessment so they understand what is causing their pain and what type of treatment is most suitable.

All osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), the statutory regulator. This means they have completed recognised training, follow strict professional standards, and are legally required to maintain ongoing clinical competence.
For most people, osteopathic treatment is gentle and low-risk. Mild short-term soreness or stiffness can occasionally occur after treatment, but this typically settles within 24–48 hours. Serious adverse effects are very rare.
Before any treatment begins, your osteopath will carry out a full case history and examination to ensure osteopathy is appropriate for you. If your symptoms suggest that another approach, investigation or referral is needed, they will discuss this and guide you accordingly.
At Body Balance, patient safety is central to everything we do. Your osteopath will explain your diagnosis, treatment options and expected outcomes so you can make informed decisions about your care.
